Posters designed for a story of Dream

In the course, Typography 2, I designed a series of posters for a story from the book, “Exercises in Style”. The narrative I picked up is “Dream”. I used different strategies to design typography based on the content of the narrative.

The process

I visualized the “corridor” and “the Gare Saint-Lazare” into an overlapped form, for which I picked plastic wrap and tore paper to create the textures and shapes. I used water and burn marks to present “the multifarious and indistinct apparitions around me.” I combined different strategies into new compositions and invented new works.

• The Combosition Posters

Finally, I created three hybrid posters as a set, reflecting three paragraphs in the story.

The third poster was black at first. Since the black tone had a more fluid transition to the previous two posters, giving the feeling of going into a deeper dream. This was contradictory to the story “Whereupon I woke up” in the end. Therefore I redesigned the third poster in white, which matched the feeling of suddenly waking up in the narrative.
